Developing a Mechanism-Informed AI Collaborator for Biomedical Research

AIRIS Partners Gather in Bern for Technical Meeting

26–27 August 2026 | Bern, Switzerland

On 26–27 August 2026, AIRIS partners gathered at the ARTORG Center for Biomedical Engineering Research in Bern, Switzerland, for a two-day technical meeting bringing together perspective from several Work Packages.

The meeting focused on advancing mechanism-informed generative AI and its trustworthy application in healthcare. Discussions covered biological and causal mechanisms, virtual cells, mechanism discovery, and the integration of mechanistic knowledge into AI models, with particular attention to the project's idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) use case.

The second day focused on ethical, legal and societal aspects of AI, including data protection, ethical governance and the AIRIS ELSI framework.

The meeting strengthened collaboration between partners and helped align scientific and ethical priorities, early in the project – paving the way for the next project milestones.
